Hi! I'm Noah, and I genuinely enjoy teaching. I have a B.S. in Biology with a focus in Botany, Environmental Science, and Field Biology, along with a minor in Secondary Education. I've worked as a Biology and Chemistry tutor, a substitute teacher, and an outdoor/environmental educator. I've worked with students in both traditional classrooms and hands-on learning environments.
I want students to understand what they're learning, not just memorize it long enough to pass a test. I’ve found that one of the best ways to teach something difficult is to connect it to something the student already understands. When I teach I like to use metaphors, analogies, real-world examples, and plenty of questions to help students make those connections. Sometimes a complicated scientific concept just needs to be explained in a completely different way.
I also believe that learning should be enjoyable. I want students to leave a tutoring session thinking, "Oh, I actually understand this now!" rather than feeling like they just survived another hour of school.
As a substitute teacher, I worked with a wide range of grade levels and classroom situations, which taught me to adapt to different students and learning styles. I also taught at an environmental charter school, where I led outdoor hikes and hands-on lessons and connected science to the world around us. I especially enjoy teaching science because there is so much opportunity to make it tangible. Biology isn't just something in a textbook; it's happening everywhere around us.
I'm comfortable tutoring biology, general science, chemistry, math, and history. Whether a student needs help catching up, wants to get ahead, or just needs a confusing concept explained in a different way, I'll meet them where they are and work from there.
Most importantly, I want my students to become more confident learners. I would feel most proud of teaching students how to learn, because at the end of the day, school is more about learning how to learn than it is about the content itself.
