I have over seven years of tutoring and teaching experience working one-on-one and in small groups with students from middle school through college. I served as a Teaching Assistant for Calculus 1, 2, and 3 at the University of Chicago, where I led biweekly tutorial sessions and helped design course materials. At UNC Asheville I served as a Course Ambassador for Biochemistry, leading weekly problem-solving sessions and pre-exam reviews.
My approach is built around one core idea: understanding beats memorization every time. Most students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they’ve been taught to follow procedures without knowing why they work. I teach the “why” first — once a student understands the underlying logic, the mechanics follow naturally and stick.
For test prep, I treat the SAT and ACT as learnable skills, not measures of intelligence. I break each section into its component question types, teach students to recognize patterns quickly, and build a decision-making framework they can apply under pressure. I use official materials exclusively and work from real tests so students know exactly what to expect on test day.
For math and science, I teach from first principles. Rather than showing students how to solve a specific problem, I build the conceptual foundation so they can reason through problems they’ve never seen before. I ask a lot of questions during sessions — not to test students, but to find exactly where understanding breaks down so we can fix it at the root.
Sessions are online via Zoom, flexible with evenings and weekends, and always tailored to the individual student.
