I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Florida State University and I have nine years of experience tutoring math, science, and English, in-person and online, including two years working as a mathematics teaching assistant.

Hello! I'm Osiano (oh-see-ah-no), a Math PhD student at Duke University who loves tutoring, language learning, and digging into a good book or article. I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Florida State University and I have nine years of experience tutoring math, science, and English, in-person and online, including two years working as a mathematics teaching assistant.

I love helping my students gain the confidence and skills they need to handle future problems. When tutoring STEM, I ensure that a student understands the motivation behind every step of a problem: discovering the correct answer to a specific problem is great, but I believe it is better to understand the process for an entire "type" of problem. This systematic, step-by-step approach prepares students for future success by inspiring organized, creative, and independent thinking. With an eye toward these same outcomes, I tutor English and the Humanities with a Socratic approach, guiding a student to fruitful patterns and ideas to develop their intuition and comprehension.

The academic experience I bring to tutoring is having excelled in STEM, including standardized tests, mathematics research, the Calculus sequence, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, Statistics, Differential Equations, and the general science courses offered at university, such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. I also bring experience excelling in English and related subjects; for example, I obtained perfect scores on the real SAT Reading and GRE Verbal Reasoning sections.

I can tutor any of the above-mentioned subjects, and have particular experience tutoring Algebra, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Geometry, English, and test prep. I have received As throughout the Calculus sequence and in Differential Equations. I also have experience with Linear Algebra (I received a perfect grade), which has afforded me broader capability in tutoring Vector Calculus. I am familiar with the Stewart, Briggs, and Anton texts.

I took Ordinary Differential Equations and received an A. I am familiar with all the standard techniques for solving first- and second-order differential equations, including Laplace Transforms and series solutions. I excel at Linear Algebra and bring this experience when using matrix methods to solve differential equations.

I maintained a perfect grade in the course during the semester taken. I am familiar with the Rosen and the Epp Discrete Mathematics texts. I am comfortable tutoring at the level of an introductory Discrete Mathematics course with proofs, but cannot help with work that has an applied/programming focus.

I maintained a perfect grade in the course during the semester taken. I have also worked through roughly 90% of the problems in the Lay Linear Algebra text, as well as some problems in other texts. I am well prepared to tutor at the level of a first college-level Linear Algebra course with proofs, but not at the level of a second or advanced Linear Algebra course.
