Welcome! My name is David. For the past eight years, I have worked as a humanities educator and researcher at Duke University, where I created new knowledge and multimedia projects with others about technology, science, arts, and culture. This academic experience makes me a resourceful, self-motivated, and creative tutor. As a writer, teacher, and editor, I convey information in a straightforward, constructive manner with a positive outcome in mind. I have organized several conference panels, given a dozen presentations and numerous guest lectures, and helped students become conscientious, critical thinkers. More than intelligence or a desire to learn new skills, my compassion for others' ideas and unique experiences has motivated my success.
I have a PhD from Duke University, and I double-majored in English and History at UC Davis. Over the years, I have worked with middle school math students, high school English students, and Duke undergraduates from a variety of backgrounds. One of the most rewarding experiences has been teaching STEM majors new ways of reading science fiction literature and how those skills apply to their everyday experiences with technology and popular culture. I pursued a career in higher education because I want to help others realize how smart they are.
