Hello y'all! I have always been motivated by innovative and creative educational solutions that enhance the intellectual and emotional experience for learners of all ages and have been fortunate to have played a part in doing so both academically and professionally. As I explore a new educational focus in my career, I know unequivocally that my experiences in the classroom are transferable to working specifically with YOU as a your tutor; and as someone who has benefited immensely by employment in many fashions—from many years in academia, including student tutoring and advising, to theatre education and management, I bring an established skill set to our meeting.
I hope you find it relevant that I spent fifteen years in a college classroom—and just as many years advising and tutoring a new core of students each semester. As an Instructor of Communications, English, and Drama, I was responsible for the development, delivery, evaluation, and assessment of classroom instruction and was responsible for providing those related services and support activities required for optimal student learning and effective educational programming. As an instructor I learned to analyze challenges, identify alternative solutions if needed, and implement new methods in support of my instructional objectives. Holding learners accountable to measurable results was key.
I never took advantage of an education when I was young; unfortunately it wasn't a priority in my family. I grew up with a "learning disability" that impacted my focus. However, it mean't that I now teach the way I should have learned: I prefer a more immersive classroom. My experiences in both the classroom and theatre have enabled me to better understand the effectiveness of a communicative act on its intended audience; knowledge that is invaluable to ANY educational setting. I am accustomed to working well with learners of all ages, and of all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, and students of all levels of expertise.
