Hi I'm Rosie! I graduated from Duke University with a double major in Public Policy and Chinese.

Hi I'm Rosie! I graduated from Duke University with a double major in Public Policy and Chinese.
I'm originally from Korea, but I had the great privilege of learning English in a stress-free environment by moving to Canada when I was about 10 years old. Since then, I've moved around a lot - and I've been to places where I initially could not speak the dominant language several times. From personal experience, I have a deep understanding of the ways in which second language learners learn and the frustrations that come with learning a new language. I have since made it my mission to be involved in teaching English and other languages I'm fluent in in any capacity that I can be.
I have experience teaching students at many different levels. The summer after I graduated from high school, I taught reading and debate to middle school students. I came up with a new debate topic for every week, carefully prepared a packet with relevant articles, and customized homework assignments based on my understanding of their English levels. I continued to tutor ESL students in the area while I was at Duke. The summer after my sophomore year of college, I went to a war-affected region called Quang Tri in Vietnam to teach English to 9th grade students for two months. I independently designed the curriculum and decided on relevant conversation topics to help students become more comfortable with English.
I also have extensive writing and speaking experience. I just completed my year-long thesis at Duke University, where I was given honors. I was also the national champion for public speaking in Korea in 2014. I know how difficult and frustrating it can be to learn a second language and to read and write complicated articles and essays in it, and I would love to help!
