Joining RTI International as a research chemist, I worked intensively with various human and mice sample types such as: plasma, serum, urine, brain, liver, cell lysates, conditioned media… At first, my main responsibilities were sample extraction (both solvent and solid phase extraction) and data acquisition using liquid chromatography (Agilent HPLC and Acquity UPLC) and mass spectrometry (AB Sciex 4000 QTRAP and Waters Synapt G2-Si). I quickly became project manager for multiple projects, overseeing every steps including contacting client investigators, prepare analytical plans, coordinating personnel (including PI, research chemist, lab worker, statistician) sample processing, data acquisition, data processing and packaging. The Eastern Regional Comprehensive Metabolomics Research Core operates in a GLP-like environment where project steps are thoroughly documented and quality controlled. I also provide expertise complementing other research chemists in competing for external research support.
Before joining RTI International, I was a postdoctoral research associate for two years in Dr. Edgar Cahoon’s laboratory at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where I studied the biosynthesis of polyacetylenes, a group of compounds that has anti-cancer activities in vitro produced by plants in the Apiaceae family (such as carrot). I also quantified acyl-acyl carrier protein in seeds, bacteria, and algae using liquid chromatography (Shimadzu) and mass spectrometry (AB Sciex 4000QTRAP) in support of bioengineering effort to produce plant oil with modified fatty acid chain length.
I have rich experience in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students (I was a TA for more than 6 years at Kansas State University). I have more than 10 years of experience in collaborating with researchers at multiple professional levels, and often across institutes and disciplines.
PhD in mass spectrometry
