Hello students my name is Miss Dawn. I'm a grandmother interested in working as a reading tutor. I have always loved to read books, and short stories, as a child I spent many hours traveling to new places in my mind via the books I read. Throughout my school career my avid reading helped me to able to read at a grade level three years above my current grade level. Unknowingly to me as a child engaging in a fun activity it would be my love of reading that would help me do well on reading comprehension exams later on in school.
I am an moderately experienced reading tutor having worked with children from the second to the fifth grade,in a formal school setting from January of 2006- January of this year 2009 helping children to overcome their initial dislike of reading, and to begin to enjoy reading as I have all of these years. I've used two types of reading material while tutoring, scripted and non scripted reading materials, I also helped my three children to be good readers as well. I am a 2004 graduate of North Carolina Central University holding a Bachelors Degree in History, I was a non traditional student attending college while raising my last child living at home.
