History has always been more than a subject to me. It's a way of understanding how people think, make decisions, and navigate challenges. I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in History from Miami University, where I conducted original archival research, presented at academic conferences, and taught undergraduate students as a Graduate Assistant.
What shapes my approach as a tutor, however, is not just my academic background. I was a nontraditional student who started college at 25 after struggling in high school. A few teachers took the time to believe in me when I was on the verge of giving up, and their support changed the course of my life. Because of that experience, I understand that many students are capable of far more than they realize, and sometimes what they need most is someone who can explain things clearly and help them build confidence in their own abilities.
As a tutor, I focus on helping students understand the "why" behind the material rather than simply memorizing facts. Whether we're working on history, writing, research papers, study skills, or source analysis, I try to break complicated ideas into manageable pieces and adapt my approach to each student's learning style. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but to help them become more confident, independent learners who know how to approach new challenges successfully.
