I graduated from Denison University magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Anthropology. After college, I joined the non-profit Teach for America to serve high-need communities in rural Kentucky. Nothing was more meaningful than reading to students and helping them develop a deeper connection to books and words. I went on to teach at a small private school in my hometown of Durham, NC, working there for over ten years.
I have taught a wide variety of subjects to both high school and middle school students. I decided I needed to take a break from full-time teaching, but have found I deeply miss connecting with students, figuring out how they learn, and unraveling what is impeding their growth. Franz Kafka once said, "A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us." I find nothing more meaningful than helping students find that deeper connection to literature and their own words. I want to transform your relationship with words into a source of personal meaning and lifelong confidence.
In my last years as a full-time teacher, I also found teaching middle school math deeply rewarding. Every human is a puzzle of unique mental blocks and hidden fears that hide from them their own private brilliance. Let me show you.
