I have a strong background in both science and science education, with experience teaching and tutoring students across a wide age range and in multiple settings. I hold a bachelor’s degree in biology from UNC Chapel Hill and have completed a master’s degree Clinical Research Management from Wake Forest University School of Medicine, which has strengthened both my scientific knowledge and my ability to communicate complex material clearly. Additionally, I am a published science education researcher with my work directly impacting students in college classrooms.
Professionally, I previously worked as a high school science teacher, where I taught students in a classroom setting and developed student-centered methods that emphasized adaptability, clear communication, and meeting learners at their individual level. I focused my instruction on innovative, hands-on learning rather than traditional didactic methods which saw my students score the highest on district testing. Additionally, I have served as a supplemental instructor and teaching assistant for a variety of college-level biology courses directly working to develop new course content, assessments, and supporting students in their learning. In addition to formal teaching, I have experience providing academic support and mentorship through tutoring and educational outreach, including working with middle, high school, and college students as well as supporting learners and trainees in professional and laboratory environments.
My teaching approach focuses on breaking down difficult concepts into manageable pieces, using real-world examples, challenging application style questions, and adjusting my methods based on each student’s learning style and confidence level. Across these roles, I have worked with students ranging from middle school through adulthood, in classroom, laboratory, online, and mentorship contexts, which has helped me build a flexible and supportive tutoring style.
