I am an expert at literary and historical analysis, and throughout my interdisciplinary work I have honed my abilities as a teacher and a writer. As your tutor I will help you develop techniques that will make you a more effective and efficient writer and researcher. We will work together to set clear goals, develop plans for drafting and revision, and work to sharpen your writing into lucid, insightful prose. I have supported numerous students on their college application journey, and have worked with students who have received prestigious fellowships, grants, and placement in study abroad programs. I left a PhD in English and Comparative Literature to teach High School full time. My research focused on 19th and early 20th Century American Literature, particularly on the ways the US Civil War was utilized to shape the country's historical narrative and national identity. I teach US History 1 and 2, US Government, and Colonial History. We utilize primary source textbooks that I compiled and edited myself.

I grew up in church, the son of a pastor, and in 2012 graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Duke. Although my background is broadly evangelical Protestant, I have familiarity with a variety of denominations, including Orthodoxy and Catholicism. I am highly skilled in both Biblical and Theological interpretation from a variety of perspectives.

I was a three year starter and all conference / all state academic middle linebacker and long snapper. In college, I played long snapper, linebacker, and defensive line, lettering all four years. I love supporting players in the development of their careers, particularly improving their IQ and situational awareness. I can support the recruiting process, film study, and advise how players can take their game to the next level.

I have been an avid photography enthusiast for more than eight years and regularly teach photography electives at my high school. I am enthusiastic about helping beginners develop their photographic practice and supporting fellow enthusiasts in taking the next step to level up their photos.
