I've always loved to teach. I spent all four years of high school tutoring students aged 7-13 in piano, along with two years tutoring English and one semester as a teaching assistant for AP Physics 1. In college, I would hold informal teaching sessions three times a semester whenever Psychology 101 exams came up for my premed friends and they wanted some additional guidance from their resident psych major.
In college, I've had my fair share of professors and TAs who almost (and sometimes successfully) turned me off of a certain subject or major because of their abrasive teaching methods. At the same time, I've also experienced what it's like to have a professor or TA who actually cares and takes the time to make sure you understand the content, and it has made a world of difference in who I've become and what I've chosen to study. As a student, I understand what it's like to struggle in a particular subject -- I almost dropped the statistics major because of how difficult I found math here to be. But I worked hard, went to office hours, and eventually passed all my math classes with an A or an A+. I think this experience gives me a unique perspective as a tutor, as it allows me to better understand each student's struggles and unique learning processes.
