My name is David! I am originally from northeast Ohio, and since high school, I have tutored students in various topics ranging from music to biochemistry, both as a volunteer and paid tutor. The majority of my work has been one-on-one, although certain subjects, like music theory, are learned best in a group setting. I have worked with students ranging from middle school to college and have found that everyone has a unique approach to learning that can be utilized to perform better and gain long-term knowledge in the process.

If you would like to practice sight singing, learn music theory, or get advice on your compositions, please let me know. I have over 10 years of music performance and instruction, including teaching trumpet lessons, directing multiple a cappella groups, and leading student groups through rehearsals of my compositions.

If you need help with any STEM subjects, I have completed multiple AP courses and graduated summa cum laude from the College of Wooster with a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, and a minor in Music.

If you need to study for the ACT or MCAT, after graduating, I took a couple of gap years, which included some time to retake my MCAT, as I had rushed into my first test at the end of my senior year. With the help of a Wyzant tutor, I was able to increase my score by 11 points, and I am looking forward to passing on what I have learned! As I start my next chapter at Duke University School of Medicine, I am hopeful to help others find their key(s) to efficient, effective learning.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson! I am easily accessible and will always strive to respond as soon as possible.

Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

Throughout my time in college, I sought out as many opportunities as possible to be musically active. I composed multiple pieces, including string quintets, full orchestra pieces, solo voice with accompaniment, and many others. My favorite compositions were for solo piano, given the incredible versatility of the instrument. This experience, as well as my piano lessons and music directing for a cappella groups, has made me very comfortable with composing for piano. I would love to use my attention to detail to assist others with their compositions, as well as get the chance to see what creations others have in store!
MCAT

MCAT

I have had the opportunity to be on both sides of the MCAT tutoring table, both as a student and tutor. After my first attempt at the MCAT, I was able to set aside a month to dedicate time to studying and learned the power of certain study tools and ways to get through the material quickly and effectively. That being said, I know that is not always possible. As someone who has often worked multiple jobs concurrently, I am confident that I can find an approach to increase your score regardless of your timeline. Subscores: C/P 129, CARS 132, B/B 130, P/S 129
Medical Coding

Medical Coding

Over the past couple of years, I have been working as a medical assistant for a very surgically active oculoplastics practice that has required me to learn the ins and outs of many aspects of medical coding and ensuring insurance approval (either for prior authorizations or appeals). I would be happy to help clarify any coding material related to a specific specialty or within a specific coding program.
Music Production

Music Production

While in college, I was actively involved in the music composition sphere and am very familiar with Sibelius. I have also been working on a recording project for the past year and recently completed a 15-song album as a result. I am happy to help in any capacity, including troubleshooting music program issues and finding the way to make the sound that you are looking for.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I have earned a bachelor's degree in neuroscience with a focus on neurobiology and have experience with literature reviews, meta-analysis, bench work, and active brain tumor drug trials. I am happy to help with any course material and/or research projects related to neuroscience in any capacity. I am also willing to learn whatever programs are required to help you succeed, as I had to self-teach coding for my thesis about prognostic factors for meningioma growth.
Piano

Piano

While in college, I took multiple years of piano lessons. I also got first-hand experience music directing multiple a cappella groups, which included sight-reading the arrangements to produce the parts on the piano for practice. I also had the opportunity to create multiple piano compositions and work with an incredible pianist with over 50 years of experience. I would love the chance to help pass on any lessons that I can and develop practice plans.
Sight Singing

Sight Singing

Since I was in 5th grade, I have been inextricably involved in music. I have always loved creating music with others and would love the chance to help others become in tune with their inner voice. I have sung as a bass II for ensembles including choruses, jazz ensembles, a cappella groups, and quartets. I have also taken singing lessons and performed many solo pieces over the years. All of which has helped me grow as a person, musician, and teacher.
Trumpet

Trumpet

Since 5th grade, I have been playing the trumpet. I have played in multiple musical environments, including marching band, symphonic band, orchestra, jazz ensemble, jazz combo, and solo & ensemble. Over the years, I have taken lessons from many extremely talented musicians, as well as provide lessons of my own to middle and high school students. I would love to help anyone develop a strong foundation and an expressive style.
