Dear potential client or care giver,
I’m Dr. Bob! I earned my PhD in Biochemistry in 2018, and specialized in cancer biology and X-ray crystallography. I’ve authored and published two scientific papers, and contributed to three additional publications. My research has been presented internationally, and I wrote a book chapter on multidisciplinary approaches to cancer research. My experience in the pharmaceutical industry as an analytical biochemist for 2.5 years has also given me a well rounded perspective. Along my journey, I’ve found the most satisfaction in helping others understand complex topics in science.
In 2010, I volunteered for three semesters doing 1-on-1 peer-to-peer tutoring at the pirate tutoring center at ECU as a means to reinforce my own understanding of chemistry. I have six semesters of experience as a teaching assistant, including three semesters of classroom instruction for the biology lab section at UT Arlington. As a grad student, I enjoyed personally training and mentoring the growth of several undergrads, and wish to continue helping students now that I’m no longer working in academia.
My teaching style involves asking questions to pinpoint gaps in the student’s knowledge, and then guide the student through a logical thought process to arrive at the correct answer. I will regularly quiz the student on key concepts to reinforce their ability to communicate ideas in their own words. My communication style can be very animated and expressive. I try to capture the attention of the student and keep them engaged with adjacent interesting facts.
