Bio

Do you feel like no matter how hard you try, it just won’t click? Unsure how your teacher got from A to B? As a theorist and a tutor, I assemble the pieces of knowledge you need, showing you how they fit together to make learning faster and less frustrating. My tutoring goes beyond helping when you’re stuck—I aim to build a big-picture understanding that prepares you for future courses and careers.

Currently, I’m pursuing a PhD in theoretical/computational biochemistry and physics at Duke University. I hold a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky with minors in Math and Computer Science. As a Duke teaching assistant, I have insight into expectations for undergraduate labs and lectures, which I draw on to help students succeed.

With a strong chemistry background, I can answer questions across most areas in the field. I believe much of chemistry can be simplified with a few core concepts and math. My goal is to teach these foundations so students become more self-reliant. As a theoretical chemistry PhD student, I offer deeper insights into the simplifications presented in high school and undergraduate chemistry, and I welcome challenging questions.

In math, I focus on building the right tools, not just memorizing solutions. By identifying gaps in understanding, I guide students toward independent problem-solving. My math coursework includes calculus (up through differential equations), linear algebra, and complex analysis.

For computer science, I bring over 10 years of coding experience, with four publications, including machine learning work. My projects range from website development and tech industry work to university labs, and I’ve even won a local hacking competition.

I’m excited to help you or your child understand, grow, and succeed!

Approved Subjects

Chemistry

Chemistry

I am a graduate student studying theoretical chemistry. This means I have to understand the fundamental math, approximations, and concepts that underpin chemistry. I also have been a teaching assistant for college level chemistry classes which gives me insight into how TAs and professors think. Lastly, I have a bachelors degree in chemistry.
College Counseling

College Counseling

I am a current chemistry PhD student at Duke. In additional to successfully applying for PhD programs for myself, I have also helped guide multiple undergraduates in successfully applying to schools such as UIUC, Harvard, and UChicago. I also have received myself and successfully advised others on applying for the NSF GRFP.

Incredible Chemistry TA/Tutor

Andrew's familiarity with my Gen Chem 1 material was by far the best I've seen--as good if not better than some of the TAs at my own university. He knows the material very well and explains concepts with just the right amount of information to ensure you can grasp everything without being overwhelmed by unnecessary information. He is a seriously competent tutor--I absolutely recommend him to anyone who needs a little (or a lot of) extra help in any level of chemistry. Andrew, in 2 hours, seriously saved my chemistry midterm grade.

Chemistry

Andrew has been working with my son for a couple of sessions now and he couldn't be any happier. In his own words..." I would recommend Andrew to anyone struggling with Chemistry". Thank you Andrew!
