Q: What is tutoring like with you?
A: In a typical hour, the student and I will go over any problems or concepts that are causing difficulty, backtracking when necessary. It is a good idea to take notes here. For younger students especially, I will assign a few practice problems at the end of the session. These will either be from the textbook (if there is one) or penned by me. Older students are usually in classes where they have homework and reading assigned, so there is less assigning from me.
Q: How can I make the best of this?
A: Really, every student has a different situation and structure. Some are homeschoolers where there’s no textbook, and I have to figure out where they are from scratch; some are working through a specific curriculum; some are in a class with a rigid syllabus and schedule; some are preparing for a standardized test. The more you can let me know about your situation before we begin, the more I can help you.
