Bio

As an Aerospace Engineering graduate (Bachelor's in Engineering), I have extensive knowledge in STEM subjects through undergraduate level, as well as strong writing and language arts skills. When obtaining my first degree, I was on the President's list every semester except my last, when I received the Dean's list award. My ACT score each time was 31, with math being my best subject. I have tutored for years, starting in high school and continuing to current day. My previous tutoring experience ranged from elementary aged children to select college classes, in all subject areas (math, science, English, etc.). The majority of my experience has been one-on-one online sessions, and some were on an as-needed basis but most were repeating weekly sessions. I especially have experience with students who are gifted and need a challenge, and students with ADHD who need a more individual approach.

I've always said I know I've done my job well when the student doesn't need me anymore, because that means they've gained the tools they need to succeed independently. My goal is not to just teach the material, although that is a very important immediate goal, but to also equip the student so they can go confidently into their own life goals. Beyond that, my methods are whatever the student needs. It is a little difficult to describe my methods as they are so varied; as varied as the students who need them! We can use traditional means (textbooks, repetition, flashcards, etc.) or we can try something new and fun, such as turning the material into a game or making rhymes out of it. I do strive to connect the material to what the student's interests and to make it relevant to real-world experiences they are likely to encounter, to give the student a reason to be interested in the work. Constant research in new teaching methods is a must if I want to succeed as a tutor and help the students succeed themselves so I apply myself in this way gladly. I am happy to use the materials the student brings or supply my own too!

Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I am a lifelong student of the Bible, and have attended church my entire life. I was part of a Christian homeschool co-op from 6th grade until I finished 10th grade, where the majority of classes were taught with a biblically inclined stance. I still continually research and study Christian and Biblical topics.
Cooking

Cooking

I am a homemaker, so I plan, source, prepare, and serve all of the meals for my family. My specialties are frugal meals and Amish/Mennonite cultural cuisine. These include meal prep, three square meals, snacks, desserts, and preservation techniques.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I've helped teach/tutor students in this age range in every subject, mainly in high school but I've retained that expertise through volunteering at my church and for families I know personally. I used to be part of a homeschooling co-op as a student and part of the structure there was families would help teach each other's children in areas they were strong in. My family and I all have strong academic backgrounds, so we helped teach math and science mainly to many other students in return for their help in other areas.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

Having ADHD, I have experienced numerous challenges with executive functioning. In an attempt to overcome these through lifestyle changes, I have tried dozens of methods, some with more success than others. I am a work in progress, but I was able to graduate college with honors at 17, obtain a bachelor's in engineering at 21, and successfully run a home fully independently. So, in my academic, professional, and personal life, I have experience in this area through my own endeavors.
Homeschool

Homeschool

I myself was homeschooled from 6th grade until I graduated high school. During that time, I was able to receive a degree by the time I was 17 and continue to the state's best university to obtain a Bachelor's of Science in Aerospace Engineering by the time I was 21. My qualification to teach homeschooled children is that I was very successfully homeschooled, as was my brother and all my friends. Because of this I have a love for homeschooling and believe it can be done very well, especially when tailored to the student and their goals and learning preferences. I have a lot of experience to pull from in this area, in all subjects and age groups, in addition to ongoing research into the current curriculums and teaching methods to keep my skills sharp and up to date.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I studied MATLAB in the course of obtaining my Bachelor's of Aerospace Engineering degree, as well as utilizing the skill in multiple upper level classes as I progressed. It was a near-daily occurrence, which continued into my first professional job. There I used MATLAB almost exclusively to write programs relating to the design and testing of new aircraft, and the handling of the resulting data.
Needlework

Needlework

I have been embroidering items for years, both to sell and gifts. The majority have been family names for weddings. I use a number of stitches, materials, and styles in my work.
Reading

Reading

I've always had high scores in English, from elementary through high school, and continued to use those skills in my engineering education where reading/English classes were no longer required. The majority of my classes required extensive research and writing, which needed reading comprehension, general knowledge, writing (creative and technical), public speaking, and more.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I've encountered a number of classes requiring a wide range of study skills, and have successfully implemented them in tutoring students K-12 in all types of subjects (science, math, engineering, English, etc). I always tailor my methods to the student and their learning style to help them improve in the shortest time possible.
Violin

Violin

I began learning violin in 2008, as a child. Since then I have continued learning under two teachers, graduating to independent study in 2018. I play multiple events per year, mainly weddings and special religious events. I do teach multiple students already, between 4 and 7 years old, and they are progressing well.
