Hello! My name is Serena and I am a classically trained singer and pianist. I run my own music-teaching business where I have been teaching voice and piano lessons to students of all ages for going on 6 years! I am a patient, compassionate teacher who believes in every student's growth. My mission is to cultivate an encouraging environment in which students are challenged but inspired to achieve their personal goals!

I graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. degree in Music from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, specializing in voice. As a lyric soprano, I have trained in opera and art songs, as well as musical theatre, in English, French, German, Italian, Latin, and Spanish, the latter of which I am fluent in as a second language. I also love to sing jazz and pop songs! Over the years, I have studied classical voice with several prestigious voice professors, including Christina Pier of UNC-Charlotte and Ilana Lubitsch of Davidson College. Throughout college, I also studied piano and took several music theory courses. In high school, I studied classical piano intensively with Steinway-Teacher-Hall-of-Fame-recipient Ms. Cynthia Lawing of Davidson College and received "excellent" and "superior" marks at competitions.

I would love to help you! I teach students of all ages and levels, so please don't hesitate to reach out!

General Music

General Music

I graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. degree in Music from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I took a variety of courses, including Music Theory, Music History, Jazz History, Aural Skills, piano, voice lessons, and ensembles. Although I specialized in voice, I was able to obtain a wide-range of music knowledge and experiences. I particularly loved getting to learn about Jazz History, which was incredibly enlightening not only as it relates to music, but also history and world cultures in general!
Piano

Piano

For my sophomore, junior, and senior years of high school, I studied classical piano intensively with Steinway-Teacher-Hall-of-Fame-recipient Ms. Cynthia Lawing of Davidson College and received "excellent" and "superior" marks at competitions. I also continued to study piano in college, where I improved in my playing skills as well as the ability to sight-read music and have a much deeper knowledge of music theory. I currently teach piano lessons to students of a variety of ages and levels through my music-teaching business Serena's Studio!
Spanish

Spanish

I started learning Spanish early on in elementary school and then studied it more intensively in middle and high school. I was able to place out of all intro and intermediate Spanish classes upon entering college and received an "A" in an advanced Spanish course the first semester of my first year. While this formal education prepared me most to read and write in Spanish, I became a much more confident, fluent Spanish-speaker thanks to close friends from South America and my boyfriend from Central America. This has greatly exposed me to a variety of Latin American dialects and cultures, which has been such a powerful influence in my education as a Spanish-speaker/reader/writer but also as a global citizen!
