I am David M! I have been in the education field for 13 years specializing in the sciences. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Earth Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with minors in Secondary Education and Chemistry. I'm a highly qualified STEM teacher who is licensed to teach any science class K - 12, but chemistry has my heart! It's fascinating to think that the visible world around us is a complex orchestra of atoms colliding and reacting into what we experience as life. It has been my calling to build curiosity around science and build the next generation of scientific thinkers and innovators.
My approach involves problem based presentation and information discovery to build challenging concepts on previously established understandings and information. I want to know your interests and hobbies so I can anchor chemistry (and other sciences) to what your mind already finds interesting. My motto is understanding over completion because anyone can complete an assignment these days, but it takes effort to understand. I try to find phenomenal examples to explore the content, then allow for clarifying questions, ending with practice problems and creating problems to anticipate what could be seen on future assessments. At the end of the day, my purpose is to assist your learning. If you need time to complete assignments, work on corrections, or any other needs, then that's what we will prioritize.
I am here to help students learn and understand not only science, but how to learn. The brain is a fascinating organ, but it is also predictable. We will discover learning strategies and study strategies that you can use to not only be successful with science, but any new subject you may find challenging. We will be a team that works for the common goal of your success! I look forward to working with you!
