Hi! My name is Jennifer. I have been a professional educator and tutor for over 15 years. I have a BS in biology, a MA in science education, and a PhD in science education. I have experience teaching and tutoring at the K12, community college and university levels. My content specialties are statistics/biostatistics and R programming. Because I am a data scientist by training, I especially love using R to solve research problems or questions. R is an amazing and powerful open source statistical analysis tool, however the programming language can be a bit tricky. I enjoy teaching others the 'secret' to R syntax! As a former, tenured professor at a research intensive university , I conduct research on scientists use of 21st century reasoning modalities (quantitative reasoning, quantitative interpretation, quantitative modeling, and computational reasoning) in field ecology.

I enjoy tutoring and teaching all age groups, from Kindergarten to adults. My favorite part of teaching is the journey of learning that the student and I take together. It is important to me, as a teacher, to not only share knowledge of a subject with my students, but to inspire those students to become life-long learners.

I am an Orton-Gillingham certified tutor. I use a number of different teaching approaches (differentiated teaching strategies) to reach those students struggling. I am an outside the box thinker and I believe that teaching should be engaging and fun.

All of my post-secondary degrees are in science. I have over 18 hours of graduate (masters and PhD) level courses in biology, making me a content expert in this area. I have taught science for over 15 years and love sharing what I know with others. I use a student centered, inquiry approach when teaching/tutoring students in science. This ensures that the student not only understands the content or knowledge component of science, but also the necessary science processing skills needed to be a successful student of science.
