Hello. I'm Chris and I am available to provide tutoring for math, computer science, data science, statistics or machine learning to anyone. Regarding educational background, I received my PhD in mathematics in 2019 from USC (the Carolina one) and my Bachelors in 2011 from USC Aiken. While completing grad school, I taught ten semesters of university level math courses to university students. I also actively tutored during this time. While completing my undergraduate degree in mathematics and computer science, I worked as a math tutor for 6 semesters. While doing so, I achieved CRLA level 2 certification which requires at least 20 hours of tutor training and over 40 hours of tutoring experience. In addition, I am also a Data Scientist and software developer with about nine years of professional experience in banking and tech (including startups).
My approach to teaching and tutoring is to make the material as simple as I possibly can based on student experience. Through my years of experience, I've found that most students can comprehend and even master concepts with enough work and access to someone who can elucidate topics in a manner that is personalized to the student. The latter is where I come in, while teachers cannot cater to each student's needs and questions during class especially if those questions require extensive responses, a tutor can give the student much more specific attention than a teacher can during lecture. I will try various types of questioning and practice strategies until I find a combination that makes the material understandable and applicable to my student. I try to let the student hold the pencil most of the time and guide them as they try to understand a subject. I've found this to be very effective during tutoring sessions.
