I am an art educator, curriculum designer, and creative learning specialist with a BA in Art and Art History from Spelman College and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Art Education and Curriculum Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art. I love helping students make real connections between what they are learning and what they are creating. For me, art and academics naturally work together, whether we are exploring history, writing, research, visual art, or developing a larger project from an idea.
I have worked with children and teens in classrooms, studios, small groups, and one on one settings, and I have also worked with adult learners. My experience includes visual art, art history, writing and research support, interdisciplinary learning, and project based education. I have taught in traditional school settings, community programs, independent learning spaces, and my own art studio, where I created learning experiences around students’ interests, strengths, and goals.
My approach is especially helpful for creative learners who may understand something better when they can see it, make it, connect it to something they care about, or turn it into a project. A history assignment might become a visual research project. A writing assignment may begin with organizing ideas visually before putting them into paragraphs. A student may come in needing help with an academic assignment and leave with something they are genuinely proud of. My goal is to help students strengthen the skills they need while also giving them space to think creatively and enjoy the process.
