I’m Tan, a passionate coding tutor with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. During my time at UNCC, I specialized in Gaming, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics. These areas gave me a deep understanding of both the theoretical foundations and the practical skills needed to succeed in tech.

After graduating, I spent over four years working as a Software Engineer, primarily focused on building live-service games and scalable applications. That professional experience taught me how to solve real-world problems under pressure, and it continues to shape how I teach today.

What truly drives me as a tutor is helping students move from confusion to confidence. I’ve discovered that I get the most from breaking down complex topics such as programming logic, algorithms, data structures, and system design into a more clear, manageable steps. Whether I’m working with a middle schooler writing their first Python program, a high school student preparing for AP Computer Science, or an adult looking to switch careers into tech, my approach is very hands on. I prefer to jump straight into coding rather than spending too much time on definitions and theory. I believe the best way to truly learn is by building real projects, so I incorporate practical examples, mini games, and personalized projects into every session.

My goal is always to help students not only understand the material but also develop problem solving skills they can use independently that can be used in any subject. I’m patient, encouraging, and adaptable. I adjust my teaching style based on each student’s age, goals, and learning pace. Whether you’re preparing for exams, building a portfolio for college or jobs, or simply learning coding for fun, I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Computer Gaming

I’m a professional Game Developer with over 5 years of experience building and shipping live service games using Unity and Unreal Engine 5. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, specializing in Gaming, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics. I enjoy teaching students of all levels how to create games from the ground up. Whether you’re a complete beginner wanting to make your first game or an intermediate student looking to improve gameplay systems, AI behavior, or project structure, I provide a hands on approach to these problems. My sessions focus heavily on practical learning where we will build real projects and mechanics together so you can immediately apply what you learn. I’m patient, encouraging, and adapt my teaching style to match your goals, whether you want to build a portfolio, prepare for game development jobs, or just create games for fun.
Unity

Unity

I’m a professional Game Developer with over 5 years of hands on experience using Unity to build and ship live-service games. I specialize in teaching Unity from the ground up. Covering C# scripting, gameplay systems, UI, physics, animations, and publishing to different platforms. My teaching style is very hands on. We spend most of our time actually coding and building real projects together, such as mini games, player controllers, and game mechanics, rather than just watching theory. I’ve successfully helped beginners create their first game as well as intermediate students improve their optimization skills. Whether you want to make 2D, 3D, or mobile games, or build a portfolio, I can help you reach your goals efficiently and confidently.
Unreal Engine

Unreal Engine

I am an experienced Game Developer with strong expertise in Unreal Engine 5, having used it professionally to build action, RPG, and horror games. I teach Unreal Engine 5 using a practical, project based approach. Students learn Blueprints, level design, gameplay systems, and AI behavior by actually building playable experiences together. I focus on helping students understand clean architecture and performance best practices while keeping sessions engaging and fun. I work with students of all levels from complete beginners learning Unreal for the first time to more experienced developers looking to strengthen specific skills like combat systems, puzzle design, or optimization.
