Hi!
I am Shermeine, and I graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. After graduating, I began working as an elementary school teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching but realized I needed more education to be a better educator. I entered into a Master's program at Gardner Webb University. I obtained my Master's Degree in Elementary Education. My master's degree strengthened my ability to meet the needs of the diverse student population I serve. Using both my degrees and my classroom experience has enhanced my teaching practices and helped me implement research-based teaching strategies.
I have been an elementary school educator for over 25 years. I have taught in grades 2nd - 5th, with most of my experience being in 5th grade. I have the most experience in 5th-grade literacy, but have experience in all subjects: literacy, math, science, and social studies. My experience as a classroom teacher has provided me with the skills and knowledge to be an effective tutor. Through years of teaching, I have learned how to assess student strengths and areas for growth, differentiate instruction, and adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs. As a tutor, I use these skills to provide personalized support, build student confidence, and help learners achieve their academic goals.
Being a tutor allows me to tailor lessons and focus on one student at a time. I enjoy working with students individually to help them to reach their personal academic goals. It allows me to help build confidence in students' academic abilities. Tutoring allows me to witness student growth and celebrate their accomplishments. Feel free to reach out to me with additional questions or to schedule a lesson.
