Teaching has been a constant thread throughout my career, even when my job title didn't say educator. I hold a degree in Environmental Economics and Resource Management from the University of Georgia, a Certified Heritage Interpreter credential from the National Association for Interpretation, and a LEED Green Associate certification. I've spent years translating complex scientific, historical, and environmental concepts into language that actually connects with people, whether that's a kindergartener touching a snake for the first time or an adult audience learning about carbon emissions.
My classroom has looked a lot of different ways. I've led hands-on outdoor science programs for K-12 students covering soil health, ecology, food systems, and conservation. I've delivered interpretive tours at a professional art and history museum, where I was regularly assigned the most challenging groups because of my ability to read an audience and adjust on the fly. I genuinely enjoy figuring out what makes each individual student tick; some kids need humor, some need a challenge, some just need someone who's visibly excited about the subject matter. That enthusiasm is something I bring naturally, and it tends to be contagious.
My approach is conversational and student-driven rather than lecture-based. I ask a lot of questions, I pay close attention to where a student gets stuck, and I adapt until something clicks. I've worked with students ranging from elementary age through high school in both group and one-on-one settings across classroom, outdoor, and community environments.
