Hello! My name is Ms. Hughes, and I’m a certified high school English teacher with a strong foundation in health science. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and I’ve been working in education for several years with a focus on English Language Arts.

Currently, I teach high school English, where I work daily with students in grades 9–12 on everything from grammar and writing skills to literary analysis, test preparation, and real-world communication. In addition to classroom teaching, I’ve been tutoring for the past four years, both one-on-one and in small groups, helping students build confidence, improve grades, and master academic content in a supportive and engaging way.

My tutoring approach is rooted in patience, encouragement, and real-life connections. I believe every student learns differently, so I take time to understand how each individual processes information and adapt my methods to meet their needs. Whether it’s breaking down complex texts, helping with essay structure, or building vocabulary, I aim to make learning feel approachable — and even fun.

Beyond English, my background in health science also allows me to support students in writing research-based essays, understanding health-related content, and organizing thoughts clearly and effectively — which is especially helpful for interdisciplinary learning and college prep.
