Hi, I'm Amita. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Mathematics.. I am Orton-Gillingham (OG) certified and have over 10 years of experience tutoring children from Kindergarten through rising third grade. My background includes working one-on-one and in small group settings, with a strong emphasis on foundational reading skills such as phoneme awareness, phonics, spelling rules, syllabication, and reading fluency. Currently, I work as an ESL assistant in the largest county school district in Charlotte, where I create engaging, interactive lessons that incorporate puzzles and games to make learning enjoyable and memorable.
Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of learners, including English language learners and students with reading difficulties. I pride myself on making lessons fun, structured, and student-centered. With Kindergarteners and first graders, I focus on alphabet games, sight words, and CVC word sentence building, often incorporating drawing and storytelling to help make reading come alive. For second and third graders, I use sentence frames and fluency-building strategies to grow their confidence and independence. Many of my students have overcome shyness and stage fright, and some have even gone on to compete in spelling bees—milestones that fill me with pride.
My teaching approach is grounded in patience, play, and purposeful instruction. I believe in celebrating every small success and in truly listening to each student’s needs. Working with young learners has taught me that building a love for reading at an early age can transform a child’s entire academic journey, and I feel honored to be a part of that transformation.
