I just graduated college with a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering, and now I am working professionally in an industry that doesn't quite use any Civil Engineering knowledge. I have had some teaching experience during my high school days. I was a Teacher's Assistant at Al-Furqan school located in Raleigh, NC. There I assisted the teachers in providing necessary lecture items and proctoring exams. One thing I did notice is that students are more engaged during free discussion sessions and applying the lessons provided to their lives. Therefore, having unplanned lessons can provide the best lessons for students.
