I hold a BA in English Literature from Purdue University, an MA in English from Wake Forest University, and an MAEd in Secondary English Education from Wake Forest University. I have more than three years of experience as a writing tutor and have recently taught high school English at the secondary level.
As a writing tutor, I worked at both Purdue University’s On-Campus Writing Lab (OWL) and the Wake Forest University Writing Center. To prepare for my work at the OWL, I completed a three-credit tutoring course focused on effective tutoring strategies, academic writing conventions, and supporting diverse learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs). Through these experiences, I have worked with a wide range of writing projects, including dissertations, argumentative essays, creative writing pieces, resumes and CVs, cover letters, narrative essays, and more. I have collaborated with high school students, college students, and faculty members in one-on-one tutoring settings, helping writers strengthen their ideas, organization, clarity, and confidence. In addition to individual tutoring, I have also facilitated conversation groups for ELL students in small-group settings.
As a high school English teacher, I have experience teaching both 9th- and 10th-grade English courses at varying academic levels. My teaching philosophy emphasizes active, student-centered learning that encourages students to take ownership of their growth and learning process. I also have experience differentiating instruction and materials to meet the needs of diverse learners and create an engaging, supportive learning environment.
