Hi! My name is Gabriel, and I'm a class of 2020 Davidson College graduate. I graduated with my B.A in English with a concentration in pre-medicine, and over the course of my education I've had the opportunity to both fine-tune my reading and writing skills and develop my understanding of chemistry, biology, and physics. Exposure to this wide range of subjects has helped me appreciate and absorb different teaching styles, and I hope to individually tailor my teaching style to each student I tutor. In high school I scored in the 99th and 97th percentile on the ACT's English and reading categories, respectively, and, more importantly, I have an enthusiasm for these subjects I hope to bring to all of my lessons.
I've previously tutored underprivileged elementary school children in both reading and math, and I find helping students understand concepts that once frustrated them to be both satisfying and fun. I know what it feels like to struggle with concepts and material--in certain classes I needed to spend many evenings at my own college's tutoring center to truly understand the material, so I really empathize with how frustrating and difficult certain subjects can be. I hope to bring this empathy, and the patience this empathy imparts, to each and every one of my tutoring sessions.
As a tutor, I possess both empathy for the struggles which come with academic learning and the work-ethic to make sure each student I work with truly understands the material they're having difficulty with. I'm always open to feedback pertaining to students' preferred learning or communication styles, and I'm looking forward to being a helpful resource :)
