My expertise is in biblical/ancient Hebrew and other ancient Northwest Semitic languages. I am currently a PhD student in Hebrew Bible at UNC Chapel Hill and I teach (TA for) courses in Hebrew Bible and New Testament. I have a BA in Religious Studies from Campbell University and recently completed a MAR at Yale Divinity School (class of '21) in New Haven, CT. I also teach undergraduates at UNC as a TA for courses at the introductory level in Hebrew Bible and New Testament. I am perfectly happy to meet students where they are, whether you need to start with the alef-bet (the Hebrew alphabet!), work on general reading competency, read challenging texts in biblical Hebrew or mystifying passages from the Dead Sea Scrolls, or even explore the history of the language's development as scholars have been able to reconstruct it! If the prospective student is interested, I am also uniquely qualified to teach languages closely related to ancient Hebrew: 1) epigraphic Phoenician, which is comprised mostly of royal inscriptions contemporary with parts of the biblical record, and 2) Ugaritic, which is comprised of texts older than the Hebrew Bible and gives the clearest portraits of deities associated with ancient Cana'an (like Ba'al/Ba'lu, 'El/'Ilu, and 'Asherah/'Athiratu); knowledge of ancient Hebrew, however, is strongly preferred in order to learn these comfortably.
Most of my formal Hebrew and Northwest Semitic training was done at Yale, either through the Divinity School or the Graduate School (Religious Studies). I have continued my advanced studies in Hebrew here at UNC CH through advanced reading courses and directed research in my field.
