I have an undergraduate degree from Cornell, an MBA from the University of Michigan, and have done a lot of coursework at other colleges including classes in photography, Photoshop, and Lightroom Classic.

Most importantly I love teaching. I spent years volunteering in my children's schools: doing gifted and talented math pullouts, coaching chess, organizing the science fair, and helping students who just needed a little extra attention. I have taught photography and post processing workshops, done demonstrations for art guilds and at art fairs, and run group shoots for many years ranging in level from beginner to advanced. I also spent three years working at a Senior portrait studio. My artwork has been published, exhibited in galleries, and has won awards. I have done product photography and taught people both photography and editing techniques for e-commerce.

I have shot hundreds of models so I can offer guidance on how to find and interact with models. I have expertise in lighting, especially creative studio lighting and have done one on one training and group lessons on lighting technique. My approach is to build lessons that address what the individual or group is looking to learn about.

It's important to me that I can teach not just how to use Photoshop but how to do more complex edits in a non-destructive way. If you're doing challenging edits, you want to work in a way that allows you to undo something that happened ten or a hundred steps back without losing all of the work that came after that step. I want to teach not just how to do things but how to do them right.

I shoot primarily models in studio for portraiture, highly edited art pieces, and composites. For example, I draw “dresses” around models made of things ranging from light, to glitter, milk, or rose petals.

I would love to share examples of my work, including before and after edits. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson now.

Adobe Lightroom

Adobe Lightroom

I can teach LightRoom Classic and/or Lightroom CC. I learned Lightroom in a college classroom. Since I shoot about 50 models a year I have a Lightroom Classic catalog with about 100,000 images and select images that I sync with Lightroom CC. I start most of my edits in Lightroom, sometimes doing all of the edits in LR and sometimes finishing in PS. I've also worked in a studio that specialized in Senior Portraits, so I've dealt with even larger catalogs.
Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop

I do highly complex edits in Photoshop to make pieces for display in galleries and art fairs. I have formal college training, have attended industry conferences, and have done a lot of self study. I have presented for a number of groups and done one on one tutoring.
Photography

Photography

I started taking, developing, printing and selling photographs on film but have been working digital for many years now. I do a lot of studio photography, shooting about 50 models a year for art photos and portraits. Before COVID I regularly exhibited in galleries and at art fairs and won awards.

Great teacher!

David will vary his pace to suit my needs. When we are in the flow, he can move the lesson along at cruising speed, but when I get lost he can instantly slow down to step-by=step.

Great Tutor

Great tutor, super patient and knows exactly what he is doing. I am a beginner photographer and I needed someone who can be very patient and supportive with my baby steps in this field. He is always to the point and never wastes time. I always feel confident and comfortable asking David simple questions. Looking forward for many more sessions with him.
