About Byrd

Bio

I am a fourth-year medical student at UNC-Chapel Hill and I have 10+ years of tutoring/teaching experience. My passion lies in Biology, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Spanish. I know these subjects can be intimidating, so I focus on confidence building as well as mastering the subject. I love helping others break down and understand the complexities of these subjects.

I am a graduate of North Carolina State University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Human Biology and minors in Spanish and Nutrition. After graduation, I moved to Los Angeles to serve with AmeriCorps through the American Red Cross where I taught disaster preparedness and helped with disaster recovery. Subsequently, I began medical school at UNC-Chapel Hill and I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge through tutoring before beginning to practice medicine. Throughout my undergraduate education, I traveled to the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua with Outreach360 on seven trips to teach Spanish Literacy and Public Health. I returned several times and witnessed the power of education in transforming impoverished communities.

At North Carolina State University, I taught children how to eat healthy on a fixed income through Cooking Matters. I taught CPR and First Aid with the Red Cross and volunteered at a free clinic in Santa Monica before I applied to Medical School. In my spare time, I enjoy riding horses, yoga, and hiking.
