My name is Dean H., and I am a UNC Chapel Hill graduate with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a minor in Biology. I work throughout the Triangle as an EMT-B while preparing to attend medical school in 2028. I enjoy helping high school and undergraduate students strengthen their understanding of biology, chemistry, and biochemistry while building confidence.

At UNC, I completed a rigorous biochemistry curriculum spanning biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. My coursework included genetics, anatomy and physiology, advanced biochemistry, quantum physics, and differential equations. Beyond the classroom, I apply this knowledge through laboratory work, my experience as an EMT-B, and MCAT preparation, reinforcing my understanding and showing how science applies in the real world.

Having tutored high school and undergraduate students while learning from outstanding professors and mentors, I've developed an appreciation for effective tutoring. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my approach to fit each person’s needs. My favorite part of tutoring is watching students grow from feeling overwhelmed to becoming confident.
The best tutors don't just provide answers—they help students understand why concepts work, how they connect, and how to apply them. Rather than relying on memorization, I build understanding from the ground up. Whether breaking down difficult topics, approaching concepts differently, or working through practice problems, my goal is to find the explanation that makes the lightbulb turn on for each student.

My goal is for students to leave each session with more than a finished assignment or higher grade. I want them to build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and develop an understanding that lasts beyond our sessions. Whether preparing for an exam, tackling difficult coursework, or building a stronger science foundation, I look forward to helping you achieve your goals.

Approved Subjects

Chemistry

Chemistry

I earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from UNC Chapel Hill, where I completed extensive coursework in general chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, and advanced biochemistry. Beyond the classroom, I continue to reinforce my chemistry knowledge through laboratory experience, MCAT preparation, and my work as an EMT-B, where I regularly apply scientific principles in real-world settings. I have experience tutoring both high school and undergraduate students, and I strive to help them build a strong conceptual foundation before progressing to more advanced topics rather than relying solely on memorization.
Physics

Physics

I earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from UNC Chapel Hill, where I completed rigorous coursework in calculus-based Physics I and II, thermodynamics, and quantum physics as part of my STEM education. My physics background has been reinforced through advanced mathematics, including differential equations, quantitative problem-solving in laboratory work, and MCAT preparation. I have experience tutoring both high school and undergraduate students and focus on helping them understand the underlying principles of physics rather than relying on memorization or formulas alone. My goal is to help students build a strong conceptual foundation and develop the confidence to solve unfamiliar problems independently.
