Hi there! I’m Chioma, a passionate STEM tutor with over 4 years of experience. I’m an undergrad at UNC Chapel Hill, and I graduated from the NC School of Science & Mathematics with a 5.0 GPA. My academic background includes biochemical research and rigorous coursework in math & science, giving me a strong command of the subjects I tutor, from elementary math & reading up through high school algebra, all STEM, and SAT/ACT prep. My favorite moments in school were the ones where I got to take something I understood and help someone else finally get it too. That’s what tutoring means to me, and I’m excited to bring it to students here.

My tutoring experience comes from working with K-12 students, one-on-one and in small groups, through school-based and volunteer programs. I mentored two deaf high school students through a pen pal program, which taught me that patience and care matter when building trust with a student, especially when communication looks different than a typical classroom setting. I also founded a scholastic startup called NEST, to support neurodiverse students, where I worked closely with educators on what makes learning support truly effective; an experience that shaped how I approach students now and ignited my passion for turning confusion into confidence.

I have learned how much confidence students gain when someone takes the time to meet them where they are. I care about figuring out exactly where a student is struggling, and helping them build back up from that point. Whether we are working through early reading skills, a tricky math concept, a chemistry unit, or SAT/ACT strategy, my goal remains to build understanding and confidence, so your student leaves every session with a better grade and a sense that they can do this.

I am patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping every student succeed, no matter their age or where they are starting from. I care deeply about my students’ growth, and I would love the chance to be a part of yours!

Approved Subjects

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I've tutored elementary-aged students in math both one-on-one and in small groups through school-based and volunteer programs, helping them build strong foundational skills. I graduated with a 5.0 GPA from a rigorous STEM-focused high school, giving me a confident, intuitive command of core math concepts from basic arithmetic through early problem-solving. My approach focuses on finding exactly where a student's understanding breaks down and rebuilding from that specific gap, rather than simply repeating the same explanation. I'm patient and encouraging, and I especially enjoy helping young learners feel confident with math early on, so it becomes something they enjoy rather than dread.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

I bring a strong science background to elementary tutoring, including hands-on experience in biochemical research and rigorous STEM coursework throughout high school and college. I graduated with a 5.0 GPA from a science-focused magnet high school, giving me a deep, intuitive understanding of foundational science concepts across biology, chemistry, and general science topics. My goal with younger students is to make science feel exciting and approachable rather than intimidating, using clear explanations and real-world examples to build curiosity alongside understanding. I focus on identifying exactly where a student's understanding breaks down and rebuilding from that point, so concepts truly stick rather than being memorized.
Reading

Reading

I've tutored elementary and middle school students in reading through school-based and volunteer programs, both one-on-one and in small groups. I graduated with a 5.0 GPA and have strong written and verbal communication skills that I bring directly into how I teach reading comprehension and fluency. My approach focuses on identifying exactly where a student's understanding breaks down, whether that's decoding, vocabulary, or comprehension, and rebuilding from that specific point rather than repeating the same explanation. I'm patient and encouraging, and I especially enjoy helping young readers build genuine confidence, so reading feels enjoyable rather than like a chore.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I graduated with a 5.0 GPA from a rigorous STEM-focused high school, giving me a strong, confident command of the algebra, geometry, and data analysis concepts tested on the SAT Math section. My tutoring approach focuses on identifying exactly where a student's understanding breaks down on a specific problem type and rebuilding from that gap, rather than just repeating the same explanation. I also emphasize test-taking strategy, like time management and recognizing question patterns, alongside content mastery, since SAT success depends on both. I'm patient and encouraging, and my goal is to help students walk into test day with real content knowledge and genuine confidence.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

Strong reading and writing skills came naturally to me through a rigorous academic background, but I have learned that success on SAT Reading and Writing comes down to specific, teachable strategies, and requires more than just raw reading ability. I focus on helping students break down dense passages efficiently, identify what a question is actually asking, and avoid common traps in answer choices that seem right but aren't fully supported by the text. I help students recognize patterns so they can move quickly and confidently through each section. My goal is to help students walk away both scoring higher, and also reading and writing with more clarity and confidence overall.
