Hi! My name is Avni, and I am currently an MD candidate at the UNC School of Medicine. I completed my undergraduate studies with a degree in public health with a concentration in nutrition, along with minors in chemistry and Spanish while completing the pre-medical curriculum. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, physiology, and health sciences, and I enjoy helping students break down complex scientific concepts into clear, understandable ideas.
I have several years of tutoring and teaching experience working with students from kindergarten through college. In college, I served as a biology peer tutor, helping students strengthen their understanding of foundational biology concepts and prepare for exams. I have also taught workshops in science, reading, and creative writing through community and nonprofit programs, and I led peer-to-peer educational programs through an organization I founded focused on student learning and mentorship. These experiences have allowed me to work with students in one-on-one tutoring, small group settings, and classroom-style environments.
My tutoring approach focuses on meeting students where they are and helping them build both understanding and confidence. I like to adapt my teaching style to each student’s learning preferences, whether that means working through practice problems together, using visual explanations, or breaking material into manageable steps. I especially enjoy supporting students in foundational sciences, nutrition, and Spanish, and helping them develop strong study strategies that will support long-term academic success.
