I am a 3rd generation teacher and first fell in love with working with kids when I was a camp counselor. After earning a BS in Geology from UNCW I decided to combine my love of science and my love of working with kids by going back to school for a graduate degree in education from NC State University. I then taught middle school science (grades 6-8) for 6 years and was an ELL teacher for grades k-6 for a year. I was a science curriculum writer for DC Prep for 2 years and helped them begin their work with the Next Generation Science Standards. I taught AP Environmental Science and Honors Environmental Science at one of the top high schools in North Carolina (Raleigh Charter High School, also my Alma mater) for three years before welcoming my own three children and retiring from teaching. I was previously licensed to teach science in North Carolina for middle school and high school. I also have extensive experience with violin performance and taught privately for 6 years in my early adulthood (including 2 years at the Cary School of Music).
My biggest strength as a teacher is my ability to foster a trusting and respectful relationship with my students. I genuinely love working with kids and helping them achieve. I will help them with not only the content but also their executive functioning and study skills that will help them succeed in multiple areas. I believe every kid is capable!
