I am a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill (originally from Spokane, Washington) and I tutor SAT, calculus, and physics mechanics with a focus on clear explanations and repeatable problem solving habits. I scored a 1560 on the SAT (780 Math, 780 Reading), and I know what it takes to turn strong skills into consistent performance under time pressure. In college math and science, I have built an especially solid foundation in calculus and mechanics: I have taken Calculus I and II twice each and earned A’s every time, and I earned an A in physics mechanics both in high school and again at UNC.
My strength as a tutor is that I can break down complex topics into simple, testable steps without losing the “why” behind them. For calculus, I emphasize pattern recognition and interpretation, so derivatives and integrals feel like tools with meaning, not just procedures. For mechanics, I focus on drawing a clean diagram, choosing a consistent sign convention, and setting up equations from first principles so students stop guessing and start building solutions. For the SAT, I teach a process: how to read questions efficiently, avoid common traps, manage timing, and review mistakes in a way that prevents them from repeating.
A typical session starts with a quick check of goals and current assignments, then we diagnose the exact point of confusion using a few targeted problems. From there, I teach the concept in plain language, model a strategy, and have the student practice until they can do it independently. I truly believe that learning can and should be fun and strive to remove the grind which I know is there.
