Hi! My name is Aanya, and I am currently a Political Science and Public Policy student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am passionate about fostering a love for learning in my students. I specialize in ACT and SAT preparation, AP Literature and Language courses, Speech and Debate/Public Speaking, and any other English or writing related subjects! For some background: I graduated Summa Cum Laude from high school with a 4.6 GPA. I received an ACT Score of 34, with individual subsection scores of 36 and 36 on reading and English specifically. During my high school speech and debate career, I qualified 3 times to the National Speech and Debate Tournament, and finished my senior year as the #1 Extemper in my state, as well as an Academic All American with Premier Distinction. I was also the State Champion of Congressional Debate during my junior year, and have advanced to elimination rounds at many National Circuit tournaments, including Harvard, Yale, Glenbrooks, Emory, ASU, and the Tournament of Champions.
My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to express themselves and engage with the material. I strive to tailor my approach to each individual learner, ensuring that they not only grasp the concepts but also gain confidence in their abilities. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading literature and exploring new ideas, which I believe enriches my teaching and inspires my students.
I have 4 years of coaching public speaking/debate experience at my high school speech and debate team. I have experience with both one-on-one and group setting coaching, and my approach is to gradually build up new skills in order to perfect a student's understanding of a topic and make them passionate about the subject as a whole. I believe my experience with a diverse range of students from different backgrounds sets me apart from other tutors; I love working with a variety of learners, and am dedicated to helping everyone learn and grow!
