I hold a PhD in Biochemistry from UT Southwestern Medical Center, where I conducted extensive research in lipid metabolism. I also earned a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Cell and Molecular Biology from San Francisco State University. This academic background has provided me with deep knowledge in biology, biochemistry, and data science, allowing me to cover a wide range of topics for students.

In addition to my research, I have experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students throughout my academic career. I have guided students in laboratory settings, helping them develop a strong understanding of complex concepts like molecular cloning, protein purification, and bioinformatics. My teaching philosophy focuses on breaking down difficult concepts into manageable pieces and tailoring my approach to meet each student's individual needs and learning style. Whether it's one-on-one mentoring or group sessions, I prioritize interactive, hands-on learning to make sure students not only understand the material but can apply it.

I have worked with a diverse range of students, from high school to college levels, both in formal settings and volunteer roles. I am committed to making complex subjects accessible and engaging, helping students build confidence in their skills. My goal is to foster a love for learning and help each student reach their full potential.

Genetics

Genetics

Brittany J. has extensive experience in genetics, particularly in molecular cloning, nucleic acid isolation, and Sanger sequencing. During her research, she investigated the co-evolution of UBIAD1 and HMG CoA Reductase (HMGCR) using statistical coupling analysis, which involves analyzing genetic relationships and protein interactions. She also has hands-on expertise in generating stable cell lines and using lentivirus, which are essential tools for genetic manipulation and studying gene function. Her proficiency in these areas has enabled her to contribute to advancing our understanding of genetic regulation and metabolic pathways.
Pharmacology

Pharmacology

Brittany J. has a background in pharmacology through her graduate research, where she explored the regulatory mechanism of UBIAD1, a prenyltransferase that regulates the ER-associated degradation of HMG CoA Reductase (HMGCR), the key enzyme in cholesterol metabolism. This work has given her a strong foundation in understanding cellular processes and drug target pathways related to lipid metabolism. She also has experience in using advanced biochemical techniques and statistical analysis for drug discovery and mechanistic studies.
