Hello! My name is Hannah—I am a first-year dental student at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. I earned my Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Case Western Reserve University, graduating cum laude with a 3.90 GPA. I have a strong foundation in a wide range of biology subjects, including Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Immunology, Human Physiology, and Human Anatomy.
I have several years of tutoring experience, including one year of virtual SAT prep for middle and high school students and three years as a volunteer virtual tutor with a non-profit organization supporting adult learners pursuing their GEDs. Through these experiences, I developed a passion for empathy-based teaching. I know how intimidating it can be to reach out for help—in undergrad, I struggled with asking for assistance out of fear of judgment. I strive to foster a non-judgmental, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
My most impactful professors not only explained complex ideas clearly, but also helped me believe in my ability to learn. I aim to provide that same experience by offering personalized tutoring tailored to each student’s learning style. I emphasize building strong conceptual foundations, regularly assessing comprehension, and approaching challenging topics from multiple angles until we find what truly clicks. Active engagement is central to my teaching approach. I use guiding questions to connect new material to foundational concepts, which helps identify knowledge gaps. I also emphasize active recall, a highly effective strategy for long-term retention and genuine comprehension rather than rote memorization. I greatly value student input and welcome feedback to ensure our sessions are effective and supportive.
If you’re interested in working together, feel free to message me with the subject(s) you’d like help with and any relevant course materials or syllabi. I’m happy to answer any additional questions and look forward to working with you!
