Whatever course in Math (Prealgebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Precalculus, Calculus) and Science (Chemistry, Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology and Anatomy) you need help with, my long professional experience in the subject will help you reach your goals. From high school to college studies, I am also specialized in preparing specific subjects such as Honors and AP programs, and students and adults who wish to pursue a career in the medical field (MCAT, DAT, Nursing, PA, Physical Therapy, etc.).

I am a professional tutor with the highest degree of education. I also dedicate my time to prepare the classes thoroughly before the tutoring. Do not hesitate to contact me, I will be glad to assist you.

Here is a bit of my biography. Talk to you soon!

After a master's degree in Mathematics and Biochemistry, I was awarded two competitive national fellowships to teach for 4 years in a European university and study for a PhD in Biology and Biochemistry. After graduating with highest distinction, I took a position as a Postdoctoral fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill, where I undertook a 5-year research project in Biology and Biochemistry, which received a U.S. federal grant from the National Institutes of Health. I was then promoted to Research Assistant Professor, continued to teach Biology and Biochemistry at UNC for 4 years, and was the award winner of a year-round in-house oral presentation research contest in my Department.

I have experience in Scientific Writing, having published a dozen peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals, and as Scientific Reviewer for the National Science Foundation (NSF) grant proposal evaluation process in the Molecular and Cellular Biosciences Division, and for Plant Cell, Plant Journal, Journal of Plant Physiology, Current Opinion in Plant Biology, Federation of European Biochemical Societies, Medical Science Monitor (2005-2010).

I also supervised and trained undergraduates at UNC in all the steps from thinking and building a scientific project around various scientific disciplines (Chemistry and Life Sciences), to obtaining and interpreting preliminary data and writing a successful competitive fellowship application. Under my mentoring, one of my research students was awarded two distinguished prizes: a Research Fellowship Program from the “Pfizer Global Research & Development Award”, and the “J.N. Couch Award for Excellence in Biology” at UNC-Chapel Hill. I was also a researcher in the biotechnology industry, in the Research Triangle Park, with a competitive fellowship from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.

I teach elementary, high school, college students and adults who would like to take classes in Math, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology and Anatomy for exam preparation, or for the purpose of filling a particular gap in the curriculum, acquiring more education and developing reasoning skills.

Having been a scientist for many years, learning to pay attention to detail, passing numerous exams all the way up to a PhD program, and obtaining several scholarships, fellowships and grants, I am extremely well prepared to guide you through the difficulties of understanding and reasoning you may face during your exam preparation, or grant applications.

My Honors and Fellowships

- Industrial Fellow, The North Carolina Biotechnology Center (2010-2012)

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I am very patient and prepare all my classes in advance in order to ensure that each of my students receive individualized attention, and that each student's specific learning needs are catered to. After explaining the concepts, training exercises are always part of a tutoring session, where everything is explained in depth on how to apply those concepts and avoid mistakes. With a Master's Degree in Math and 20 years of experience in tutoring concepts from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus, I deliver a clear message, which combined with patience, understanding of my students’ needs, and a method of working and learning, builds up confidence and drive success, also preparing them for the next level in their career. I hope to work with you soon!

Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I love teaching Basic Math and Pre-Algebra because they are the building blocks of Mathematics. Working with positive and negative numbers (Arithmetic) is a pre-requisite before studying Algebra which introduces the notion of variables (when a symbol represents numbers). Too many students have not acquired these fundamental knowledges, and the negative impact is also seen many years later in high school and college. Pre-Algebra is about mastering the sets of numbers and the order of operations they are going to be involved in: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. Subtractions, and specially divisions which can take the form of a fraction, a mixed number or a decimal are what causes the most issues. Exponents, Square roots and Absolute values are concepts that need to be clearly explained as they are source of confusion that can last for a long time. When the four operations are fully understood, then comes the time to work with Percents and word problems with Fractions, Decimals and Percents. At this stage of the curriculum, students found difficult how to translate English language into Mathematical language, and they need proper guidance on how to address these questions. This type of translation will come back later with PSAT and SAT tests, as a prerequisite to successfully enter college. Basic Geometry will then encompass the use of Arithmetic to find out how to measure, calculate and recognize different shapes in 2 and 3 dimensions. Incredibly good and knowledgeable

Dr. Patrick tutored our child for AP Biology. Even if her school grades are perfect she wanted to ask questions and deepen her knowledge in order to participate in the Biology Olympiad. Her school teachers could not help her, but Dr. Patrick had those answers. Thank you!

Andrea, 6 lessons with Dr. Patrick
Tutor responded:

Dear Andrea, Thank you very much for your feedback. I shall continue providing the best quality tutoring to your daughter and make sure I am answering all the questions she may have in AP Bio and for the Olympiad. Best Regards, Dr. Patrick

Fun!

Dr. Patrick helped my son with mastering some concepts of thermodynamics in the Spring term. He had been dissatisfied with his grade and with the support, turned it into an A. More importantly, he no longer felt intimidated by the topics. Since school ended, my son has been working on biochemistry with Dr. Patrick. What strikes me is how many times he has said: Dr. Patrick is such a cool guy. This is despite that the sessions are extraordinarily down to business--as no second is wasted. And yet, the enthusiasm and encouragement that Dr. Patrick shares makes each tutoring session actually . . dare I say it . fun. There is nothing better than joy in learning. I highly recommend Dr. Patrick.

Knowledgeable and patient

Very kind, knowledgeable and patient. My 7th grader has found her lessons beneficial in prepping for her EOG’s and helping with her confidence and skill building.

Michelle, 4 lessons with Dr. Patrick
Tutor responded:

Dear Michelle Thank you for taking the time to write your kind testimonial. It was my pleasure to work with your daughter and teach her some of the important concepts of the EOG. Thank you for introducing me to the rest of the family as well. Warmest Regards Dr. Patrick

Great Teacher

Dr. Patrick is a great teacher. My daughter's first hour with him was a complete learning hour; she’s looking forward to the next hour. Thanks.

Knowledgeable and great tutor

Dr. Patrick has been working with me on Mammalian Biochemistry and he does a great job explaining the concepts. The tutoring sessions have been invaluable and he is very flexible with scheduling.

FANTASTIC teacher, even better person.

Dr. Patrick has not only made my foundation in chemistry stronger, he has also made my confidence with chemistry sky rocket. He is very patient and provides encouragement that really makes the learning process comfortable and stress free. If you don’t get something, he will bend backwards for you to get it. He will always reword or re-explain concepts that you don’t get at first, but with Dr. Patrick I GUARANTEE you will learn it by the end of the lesson or within the next lesson. Also, something I find helpful about him is that he does not go too fast or too slow, he knows his students and what pace is best for them. Dr. Patrick is a great person as well, very kind and funny. He never fails to brighten my day and get my mind ready to learn! I highly recommend him as a tutor, I had very little back ground in chemistry and I now attend a very prestigious school. I was so worried about my performance in college chemistry but now I feel at peace and can enjoy classes for the rest of my college career without worrying about not immediately getting a concept in taught class. With the help of Dr. Patrick, my understanding of chemistry has increased tremendously within a few lessons, I can even say he has taught me more than my high school or summer classes has ever had. Dr. Patrick knows his stuff too! He is a very well educated man which is apparent in his lessons! He will never give up on you! Please use him! He is RELIABLE! His response time is unbeatable and the lessons are always helpful. Dr. Patrick is one of the best, if not THE best, tutors I have ever had. Very worth it! Get your grades and confidence up with Dr. Patrick! He will not disappoint!

Excellent

Dr. Patrick helped my daughter to understand molecular geometry. He went back to the beginning of the lesson for her and it’s very clear to her now. She was able to ask questions do examples etc. He was very patient and we are both hopeful.

Aquisha, 15 lessons with Dr. Patrick
Tutor responded:

Aquisha, Thank you very much for your feedback. I am glad to hear that your daughter found the Chemistry tutoring session helpful. It is a pleasure to work with her. Also, thank you for letting me know that your daughter made her first A on her Chemistry test after just 2 tutoring sessions, and now all As in her quizzes as well. Considering that she took the quizzes the same day after she learned new and difficult concepts with me, is very gratifying. Congratulations! Also thank you for the 5-star rating, which was my 500th 5-star rating. Sincerely, Dr. Patrick

Knowledgeable! Flexible with availability!

AP Chemistry. Excellent instruction, very thorough. He makes sure you understand each topic! My son misses many class periods due to illness, but Dr. Patrick has kept him up to speed, he is testing 2nd highest in his class!

Charla, 9 lessons with Dr. Patrick
Tutor responded:

Charla, Thank you very much for your kind testimonial. It is a pleasure to work with your son and get him up to speed. Having the 2nd highest testing score in his class in AP Chemistry is an extraordinary achievement, congratulations! I am looking forward to more successes! Warmly, Dr. Patrick

Excellent Science tutor!

Dr. Patrick has helped me with my College Biology class this semester, and his expertise and communication skills exceed any teacher that I've ever had. Indeed, other tutors were unable to help me with my homework because it was very difficult, but Dr. Patrick was knowledgeable in every aspect of the course, and he also had his own powerpoint presentations for almost every topic we covered. Dr. Patrick is a great tutor because he can easily tell if his students don't understand the material, and he insists that they do. Lastly, I have never had a teacher smarter than Dr. Patrick. His intelligence allows you to work through material more quickly, because he knows the answer to every question you can ask him. Out of all the tutors I've had, none have been better than Dr. Patrick.
