Hi! I’m Serena, an incoming MIT student majoring in Biology, and I’d love to be your tutor!
I’m passionate about helping students excel in STEM and academic writing. Whether that’s breaking down algebra for a middle schooler or guiding a high school student through research competitions and application essays, I aim to make challenging concepts intuitive and digestible.
Along with 3 years of tutoring experience, my academic background combines strong performance across both STEM and writing:
I earned a 2nd Place Grand Award at ISEF and was recently selected as a Regeneron Top 300 Scholar. Through Science Olympiad, I’ve also won Silver national medals in Cell Biology and Microbe Mission. I self-studied AP Biology (exam score: 5) and became a 3x USA Biology Olympiad Semifinalist (1x Top 125).
I’m a National Silver Medalist in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and was a finalist (top 1%) in the New York Times Tiny Memoir Contest. Having been admitted to highly selective summer programs (SSP, Rockefeller SSRP), I have recent, firsthand experience with crafting strong, authentic application essays.
As for Standardized Tests, I scored a 1580 on the SAT (790 Math, 790 Reading) and a 35 on the ACT (with 36s in Math, Science, and English).
Because of this multifaceted background, I’m excited to work with students across a range of areas:
Science fair and research competitions (ISEF, Regeneron STS)
College/summer program essays, writing competitions
SAT and ACT prep
USABO / AP Biology prep
Middle-school math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry)
I pride myself on helping students conquer learning challenges to reach their full potential. Through 1:1 instruction, patience, and practical applications, helping students understand the “how” and “why” (not just the “what), I'm committed to helping students develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence it takes to succeed at subjects ranging from core math to high-competition science fairs. I’m looking forward to working with you!
