Hi! My name is Atticus, and I am a student studying history at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York! I have a lot of previous experience reviewing college essays, editing them, and helping applicants through their process. Applicants I have helped have gotten accepted into the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Stanford, Morehouse College, the Berklee College of Music, Harvard University, and more!

In elementary tutoring, I have spent a lot of time at the elementary school I attended, helping kids with anything from reading, grammar, and writing to elementary math. With AP tests and classes, I have some experience with humanities courses and have a proven set of tools to help people I've helped succeed.

My tutoring approach depends person-to-person, but focus on active learning -- there will rarely be a time during a tutoring session where I am not actively engaging a student. That means using real-world examples that a student can better understand, hypotheticals, or quizzing a students' knowledge. I want to make the most of however much time I have with a student, so the practicing will usually be left for after the tutoring session. If the session demands it, though -- say that a student has trouble paying attention or practicing on their own -- I will incorporate practice tests, questions, and quizzes to ensure mastery of a subject.

In high school, I had a 3.9 GPA, and at Cornell I currently maintain a 3.85. On AP exams, I have received 5s in the following subjects: AP Language, AP Literature, AP Seminar, AP World History, AP Art History, AP U.S. History, and AP Human Geography. I received a 1580 on the SAT in 2024.

College Counseling

I have two years of proven experiencing editing college essays, reviewing activities sections, and creating a holistic application that tells a story. Specifically, I make line edits on essays where I believe there is a clear voice and story, and offer changes to ones whose subject of the essay could be significantly altered. I both have experience in last-minute rush changes near a deadline, and long-term forming of a narrative.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

In high school, I won numerous awards in local debate competitions, and advanced through many national competitions, such as the Harvard Debate Tournament, Apple Valley, and NSDA Nationals. In Model UN, I have won Best Delegate five times, and Outstanding Delegate three times. In mock trial and moot court, I advanced to the state finals of moot court, and won an award for best attorney at my district mock trial and state teen court competitions. I have also tutored, mentored, and taught many students in rhetorical skills, public speaking, and speech.

Engaging and attentive tutor!!!

My first meeting with Atticus went really well! He’s super respectful and really listened to what I wanted from the session, and then did exactly that. It shows he actually cares about the stuff we learnt and makes sure we don’t move on without understanding. For example, after he taught me something, he’d have me explain it back with a “what, why, and example,” which I really liked. It was super interactive, and his analogies made things a lot clearer. We went over rules of evidence for mock trial, and even in just one hour I feel like I understand them way better now.
