I obtained a B.Sc. with honors in marine biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. During my undergraduate I conducted environmental and ecological research, both domestically and abroad, and secured a publication in 2016. As part of my degree I enrolled in various courses such as Advanced Techniques in Organic Chemistry, Evolutionary Biology, Invertebrate Zoology, and Genetics. I informally tutored many of my peers during this time for Organic Chemistry, Invertebrate Zoology, and Anthropology.
Starting in 2021 I began teaching at Henderson Collegiate High School and taught Honors Biology, AP Chemistry, and a science elective I created, Behavioral Ecology. I wanted to expose my students to collegiate level chemistry outside of the AP curriculum so I created Behavioral Ecology after my favorite class I took as a college junior. As part of this course I exposed my students to citizen science projects at the state and global scale. Their final project was a research project where they needed to investigate the behavior of a specific species and present their findings to the class. For Honors Biology 80% of my students (roughly 110 each year) were grade level proficient on the End of Course (EOC) state exam. For AP Chemistry, I am awaiting their scores.
Teaching science is my passion and I enjoy inspiring students to also appreciate science. With my experience as a scientist and educator I will ensure that my tutee/student will be confident and achieve their academic goals.
