I’m Melita! I hold a master’s degree in teaching from Goucher College and was a former Baltimore County Public School Teacher. I also held a provisional state teachers’ certification in Maryland for five years. It was my decision to raise my three young children in a full-time capacity that caused me to seek alternate career pursuits.
As I observed my own children’s limited opportunities for a quality preschool experience, I decided to develop a preschool program in my community that served as an alternative to the local public schools. Throughout my time being both director and teacher, I gained valuable insight into all aspects of early childhood education. Having the dual role of both program director and teacher required flexibility, strong communication skills and attention to detail. Many of the students in my program entered Kindergarten above grade level.
Outside of this program, I tutored students (Pre-k - 5th grade) on various academic skills. I really enjoyed my time with these students each week. Not only were they improving academically but also gaining confidence. I am a big believer in positive affirmation, as it relates to success in young children. I look forward to working alongside you and your child to produce the best possible outcome!
Through teaching a 2nd grade Special Education Reading class, tutoring elementary aged students, and directing a Pre-k program; I promoted students' development in essential educational and behavioral areas such as: language and literacy, math, social studies, science, art, music, and motor skills.
I designed my own Pre-K curriculum with a strong literacy focus. Students were often reading by the end of the year and began Kindergarten above grade level.
I have 3 children (now grown) who have gone through public, private, and homeschool settings. I developed my own Pre-k/ Kindergarten curriculum based on my children’s experiences in these different school arenas. I feel confident that my knowledge and experience can be of great assistanc
