About Rev. Dr. Patricia

Bio

I have always loved music and teaching. By age thirteen I was playing the organ in church, as well as for funerals and weddings. When I went to UNC-W, I decided to major in English Education since I love to read. I became a NC certified teacher and taught at New Hanover High School for several years. I have always loved music and teaching. By age thirteen I was playing the organ in church, as well as for funerals and weddings. When I went to UNC-W, I decided to major in English Education since I love to read. I became a NC certified teacher and taught at New Hanover High School for several years. Later on, I fulfilled a dream of going to Richmond, VA where I studied at Presbyterian School of Christian Education (Master of Arts in Education) and at Union Seminary (Master of Divinity). I was ordained a minister and worked in the church for a number of years. Of course, teaching and music (as well as administration, visitation, chaplaincy work, etc.) were all an integral part of my experience. I eventually decided that I wanted to go back to English and Music. I earned a Doctor of Ministry at Columbia Seminary in Decatur, GA.
My doctoral practicum was the designing of a Bible study about the evolution of hymnody. I designed a complete study book and taught the course in three churches. At present I am still certified. I am playing the pipe organ at Clinton First United Methodist Church. I am also substituting a great deal in the public schools. I have therefore had a broad range of experiences, which I bring to this position. How wonderful to be able to do what we love!!

My daughter is ADHD, and my granddaughter is autistic. I have also substitute taught for the special needs students at the local high school.

Learning and reading ARE SO MUCH FUN!!! I am a "bookworm." When I teach, I believe that I bring that enthusiasm and joy to my lessons. I genuinely love my students and want them to learn as much as they can so that they will have a happy, satisfying, and productive life. Thank you for your consideration.
