Hi my name is Collin C. and I have a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a focus on Education. I have been tutoring math for more than 5 years. I have tutored math in the subjects of Algebra, Geometry, PreCalculus, PSAT, and SAT testing.
If you pick me as a tutor feel free to send me homework problems or any content we will be going over before our lesson. I can copy and paste the problems onto the online whiteboard. PDF's are great and even a good quality picture from the page of a book taken by a phone works well. This way we don't lose time by writing problems down and have more time to learn the math.

The lesson is going to be done in a way that best matches your specific needs. Maybe you are completely lost on the subject and need me to go over some example problems, I can do that. Maybe you are stuck on some minor parts of a problem. In that case I usually have the student start solving the problem and then find where they get stuck. Then once I know which specific area of the problem the student is confused about I explain that part of the problem, so we can master 100% of the problem. Also ask me as many questions as you want!

Algebra 2

I have tutored algebra II for the past 4 years, mainly outside of Wyzant. I also taught an honors algebra II class as part of an internship for the University. I graduated from Grand Valley State University and hold a bachelors of science in mathematics and education! I will do everything in my power to make you succeed in algebra II. I give students that I tutor the option of sending me notes/homework problems before we meet. This is especially beneficial since it allows me to prepare some notes the students may want during the lesson or even to use after the lesson to help them understand the content. I start the lessons by having you work on the math problems. Seeing you do the problem shows me exactly where you are struggling and then we can focus our attention on helping you master those concepts that need more practice. We are not going to waste time by explaining every detail of every concept if you already know the concepts. This way we can get you to master everything that you don't know and really improve your math skills exponentially.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I have a Bachelor's of Science In Mathematics/ Education. I have been tutoring Precalculus for the past 5 years. Whether you need help with logarithms, polar equations, or trigonometric identities or the many other topics of precalculus I am here to help you understand. I will tailor the lesson to your specific needs. If you want a ton of example problems, I can do that, If you are stuck on one part of a problem I can help you understand that part. Also ask me as many questions as you want!
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I have tutored the SAT math section for the past 5 years, mainly outside of Wyzant's platform. I also have a bachelor of science in Mathematics. I teach SAT testing to students of all different levels whether that be honers students or students that are very behind in SAT prep. No matter which category you fall in, in terms of SAT knowledge, I'm going to help you get the SAT score you desire. If you choose me as a tutor I will provide you with a ten page SAT formula sheet. On that sheet are also tricks that can help you solve certain SAT problems much faster by using a graphing calculator. I usually have students take a practice SAT test before we start. This allows both me and the student to find where weaknesses and strengths are in mathematical ability. If you have already taken SAT practice tests and know exactly which areas of the SAT you struggle in we can work on those specific questions. I have a large question bank that we can use to master understanding of specific content areas. There are 4 areas of math in the SAT. The areas include “The heart of algebra”, “problem solving and data analysis” , “Passport to advanced math”, and “Additional topics in math”. In order to increase SAT scores most significantly I usually have students do “additional topics in math” questions last since those questions contain only 10% of SAT questions, while other content areas contain around 30%. Here are the types of questions that come up for different areas of the SAT. -HEART OF ALGEBRA (33%) of questions Includes questions related to linear functions/ linear graphs/systems of linear equations/ linear word problems. -PROBLEM SOLVING AND DATA ANALYSIS (29%) of questions Includes ratios, rates, and proportions, percents, units, table data, scatterplots, linear/exponential growth, center, spread, and shapes of distributions, data collection. -PASSPORT TO ADVANCED MATH (28%) of questions -includes quadratics, radicals and rational exponents, linear/quadratic systems, operations with polynomials, manipulating

Patient, personable, organized...

My daughter had her first lesson today. She came out of the lesson happy and confident. Collin made many suggestions which made sense to her. Collin sent me a description of what was covered which I appreciate greatly. We like that he is evaluating my daughters strengths and weaknesses and formulating a plan. She is looking forward to her next lesson this week.

Confidence and skill building

Our honors algebra 2 student has been struggling this year. He started making progress and then had a set-back due to missing over a week of school. We reached out to Collin for individual tutoring sessions. Our student is thankful for these sessions and we can already see his confidence coming back. He is actually in a better mood after leaving his sessions. That's amazing for a teenager! Collin has been very responsive and communicative. We are looking forward to continuing our work with Collin and eventually to move into SAT prep. Thank you Collin!
