I like tutoring because it is one on one and learn where a student's strengths and needs are. This help me to design a lesson for them. I am allowed to individualize. My love of reading, being able to use type of reading material. I use videos, visual aids, discussion and projects to teach a student to read.
As I have mentioned before I had a student go from a K level to a level 2. When tutoring adults, one of my parents was able to read the newspaper and to her she had conquered the world. I am a member of National Council of Teacher of English (NCTE) and National Association of Special Education Teachers. I am constantly taking continuing education courses to keep up my knowledge based skills and the changes that are happening everyday in this field. I believe that every student can read. But each has their own individual way of learning. One size fits all is not a reality. I love tutoring because I can make a lesson that fits their needs and expectations.
